After dissecting a rat as a schoolboy, Andrew Yelland became fascinated by medicine. Improving self-esteem is part of the art.

I meet Andrew Yelland in the lobby of the Nuffield Hospital in Woodingdean, just along the coast from Brighton. As a consultant surgeon specialising in breast operations, he's exactly what you would hope for, if you were one of his patients.

He's very neat and tidy, with great attention to detail. His pin-striped suit is perfect. His tie has been beautifully tied. His watch matches his wedding ring, and also the buckles on his shoes. As a breast surgeon, he will later tell me, he is a perfectionist. He has to be ? the job demands it.
